Standard 7: Educators engage in career-long learning.
I am always learning new things and trying new things; I love to learn! I learn in my personal life by trying new things, signing up for new classes, or joining different community teams. I only played soccer up to grade 8, but now I play on both an indoor and outdoor women's soccer team. I love to challenge myself and get better each soccer season. I also take community art classes, such as the pottery class up at Carlson Pottery.

In my profession, I am constantly signing up for new workshops and training so that I may be the best teacher I can be. I love to be challenged in new ways, connect with new people and be introduced to new perspectives. Just a few examples of my recent training are:
UVic Teacher Candidate Led Assessment Conference: I learned all about assessment from a Teacher Candidate and a Seasoned Teacher perspective. Highlights were learning how to gamify your classroom, and how to assess using a standards checklist instead of marking for physics classes
6Campus Teacher Education Program Meet Up in Victoria: 6 UNBC Teacher Candidates were selected to participate in the meet up. We talked about improving teacher education in BC
Place in Education Symposium in Barkerville: At this conference, I learned all about incorporating the idea of place in the classroom and how to include place in any subject area. This conference was predominately history-based, but I could easily incorporate the ideas discussed in a cross-curricular science lesson. I also had the opportunity to talk with a geography teacher about incorporating the geography of Barkerville into a science class.
Aboriginal Education Symposium in Prince George: At this conference, I learned about the struggles different Aboriginal groups go through regarding racism and trauma. I also learned more about the L'heidli T'enneh people of Prince George, and how you can utilize the local band in your classroom.
